Thanks 409! I haven't been on here in a while due to new job requirements, Grandkids, and Bash duties. Anyway last Saturday's Monster Bash was awesome! I included a couple shots to show how big the crowd was. You should be able to see all of them by going to www.facebook.com/broadstreetbash It was a wonderful free event for all. Salute to all the volunteers that made it possible. Thanks!! And LONG LIVE THE BASH.

Now, is this an example of the size of crowd the arts theme is suppose to attract? If so, them artzy folks have a long way to go.
Again, a message to the city leaders and the small contingent of arts people in the community......IF YOU OFFER SOME BLUE-COLLAR ENTERTAINMENT, FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE, TAILORED TO THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF THIS CITY, YOU JUST MAY GATHER SOME INTEREST AS THESE PHOTOS SHOW. IF YOU PLACE AN "OMNI-MAX" TV SCREEN DOWN AT GOVERNORS SQUARE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON (WEATHER PERMITTING OF COURSE) AND INCLUDE BEER, BRATS, BURGERS, WINGS AND CHEESY FRIES, HAVE THE FOLKS BRING THEIR OWN CHAIRS AND OFFER SOME ENTERTAINMENT AT HALFTIME, YOU MIGHT GET THE SAME REACTION EVERY SUNDAY. SAME WITH THE COLLEGE GAMES (OR NASCAR) EACH SATURDAY, WITH THE BUCKEYES ON THE BIG SCREEN.
The arts ain't the ticket to attracting enough people to even be noticed to your downtown. Wrong product offered to the wrong target audience. Ya need to move your operation to a more sophisticated audience.

big screen for sports/events--interesting would need to protect/preserve it a few shops would actually have to be open though, and food/beverage would have to be available + security
the "art" theme seems to be fading Pendleton seems a shell of it's classy beginning can't really MAKE it happen though--a re-invention might be due with actual open businesses and hours we can only buy so much soap(though quite a few need more!)
very impressive event down there credit to Mr.Lewis and the support crew!

Spider:
"big screen for sports/events--interesting would need to protect/preserve it a few shops would actually have to be open though, and food/beverage would have to be available + security"
Might be a way to build a stand or support unit that would be able to lift (large scissor lift with wheels?) the screen and provide transportation to a building from weekend to weekend with quick disconnects for audio/video for removal and installation each time. Perhaps a satellite dish/receiver installed around the location. Don't imagine the screen would last any length of time in this harsh climate so removal would be necessary to get some value for the purchase. Receiver would need protection too.
Since it is to draw people downtown, I would think the collective downtown merchants could provide the cost for security, as they would benefit from this endeavor. The food booths could participate on a voluntary basis and set up at their descretion at no cost to the city nor the merchants. Mr. Lewis may want to tie this into the Bash somehow as an added attraction.
Don't know how much a big screen that size would cost nor the installation of a decent surround sound. Imagine some fund raisers with some contributions from the city and some company sponsors would be doable for a return for advertising at the Square. Could be a write-off for them. Advertizing of the event would need to be done both locally and for out of town interest.
Doesn't appear to be any more proposterous than anything else they have tried down there, does it? Wouldn't it give the people more in line of what they would be interested in? Dunno.

We have talked about something similar for a couple of years now. It would be nice to be able to show the bands playing on a large screen during the Bash's because its hard to see the stage from the street where most are congregating. Also you could have Friday night movie night for families. Bring the kids and a blanket. Worth the discussion.

Wonder how much that message board at Palmer Temps on Roosevelt cost them? That appears to be effective as to drawing attention. Have seem digital "ticker tape" scrolling boards used at various places also.
