Last night a record number of people attended the Manchester Inn for the 20th anniversary of the Pigskin Roundball Spectacular. 710 people packed the newly remodeled ballroom to hear keynote speakers Jim Tressel, Ohio State football coach, and Tom Crean, Indiana University basketball coach.
Tradition was the topic that both coaches spoke of, “Tradition doesn’t graduate,” Tressel said, as he mentioned names like Sonny Gordon, Cris Carter, Todd Bell, John Peterson and Bob Grimes, all Middies who had gone on to play for the Buckeyes. “With tradition comes responsibility, and that’s what is great about those people I mentioned. They carried the flag of Middletown with them, and they made sure those behind them knew about that tradition.*
The night continued with the Pigskin Roundball/Jeff Wiley Memorial Scholarship. Praising two of Middletown’s standout athletes Jordan Campbell and Michael Cole. Both students have plans to attend Miami University. 14 other student athletes were nominated and are eligible for $500 scholarships from the Jeff Wiley Foundation.
