On May 18, 1948 Paul Griffin was just a teenager going into his senior year. Just a few days later he was leaving on a train for the United States Air Force. Griffin never received his high school diploma and now at the age of 77.
Griffin is still feeling great about receiving his diploma. He accepted it from Franklin High School six decades after leaving for the service. He was able to receive his diploma through a law that allows public schools to grant diplomas to veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Paul Griffin served in the Air Force from 1948-1949 and then married his high school sweetheart Norma in 1950. In 1950-1951 he was called back in to the service which was during the Korean War. Griffin was never pushed to pursue his education at Franklin High School so he intended to earn it later in life.
He had always tried to finish his education over the years and had signed up for classes but he had to focus on his four children. Getting his diploma is something that Griffin has always wanted. He would encourage anyone who can pursue their education to do so. |
