BROADWAY STAR AND TWO-TIME TONY AWARD NOMINEE CHRISTINE ANDREAS TO PERFORM BENEFIT CONCERT
For a One Night Only performance star of the Broadway stage and Two-Time TONY Award Nominee Christine Andreas will perform a benefit concert for Middletown Lyric Theatre August 15th 2009 at 8pm at Dave Finkelman Auditorium on the Campus of Miami University Middletown.Ms. Andreas burst onto the New York theatre scene starring as Eliza Doolittle in the 20th anniversary production of “My Fair Lady,” opposite Ian Richardson of the Royal Shakespeare Company and garnering her the Theatre World Award. She received her first TONY nomination for recreating the character of Laurey in the revival of “OKLAHOMA” while working with Billy Hammerstein and Agnes DeMille. Her second nomination was for the role of Frankie Frayn in “On Your Toes.” She received critical acclaim for originating the role of Margaret St. Just in the “Scarlet Pimpernel” and in 2007 completed the first national tour of the TONY award winning musical “The Light in the Piazza” as Margaret Johnson where the Cincinnati Enquirer said:“Christine Andreas is marvelous as the Southern matron. It’s a tribute to Andreas, a multiple Tony nominee, that she makes her character, if not sympathetic, fully delineated, elegant and worthy of respect. Her other Broadway credits include: “Angel Street,” “RAGS,” and “Legs Diamond,” with the late great Peter Allen.
Christine’s solo career has led her to singing for former President George H. W. Bush at the White House as well as singing with numerous symphonies in sold out concerts across America. The Atlanta Journal Constitution said this about Christine’s singing abilities; “Andreas has a better sound and a wiser soul than Barbra Streisand, and she may be the only pop soprano working today to rival Barbara Cook...” Having produced three successful solo albums one of which the “Carlyle Set” was named by USA Today newspaper as one of 2003’s top new releases. Her other two albums “Love is Good and “Here’s to the Ladies” have been equally successful with Stephen Holden of the New York Times extolling: “Christine Andreas has one of the four or five most compelling voices to be heard in the Broadway theater.”
Tickets for this One Night Only event are $25 each and are available on the theatre’s website: www.middletownlyric.org or by calling the box office at 513-425-7140.
