Beginning in April a bus will ferry passengers between Middletown and Hamilton for only $2 each way. The ride will be an hour long and will have 25 stops. There will be two runs one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This has been in the making for Middletown for a long time now and is finally starting to move forward.
Many people are interested in the new bus route. There are even some people in Trenton that are interested in getting a stop on the proposed Hamilton-Middletown connector. On Tuesday, March 3rd the Middletown City Council unanimously approved the legislation to establish the demand-response route with the Butler County Regional Transit Authority. Just two days later the city learned from the office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown that they will be receiving more than $1.67 million in federal economic stimulus funding for mass transit projects. This money will really be able to help the city of Middletown out.
In the city’s stimulus package wish list that was developed there were about $1.37 million in various transit projects such as purchasing two light transit vehicles; preventive maintenance for the buses; a bus lift/hoist; a bus wash facility; rehabilitation/maintenance; and par transit services. Not all of the stops have been set yet but many of them will be social service and government agencies.
