Butler County Looking At Regional Water System |

Butler County commissioners are exploring the option of buying all or part of Hamilton and Middletown's water utility systems with an interest in controlling rates for better economic development. The commissioners have initiated discussion with government officials from both cities about the option.
Butler County currently purchases it's water from Hamilton, and is contractually obligated to purchase 2.920 billion gallons a year from Hamilton until 2021. The current rate is $2.42 per 1,000 gallons, compared to Cincinnati's rate of $1.44 per 1,000 gallons.
The county has also been in negotiation with Hamilton for a year about the rate for water in excess of the quota. They have agreed to hold the rate at $1.23 per $1,000 gallons for the next two months, but the contract states that if they were not able to come to an agreement, the default price would be $1.55.
