At the annual luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce the main concern was the need to expand. As of right now the area holds five international businesses which are Deceuninck of Belgium, Dutch Company Ventilex, German Company Evertz Technology, USUI International of Japan and Miller Coors Brewing of South Africa.
The area has had success with bringing in successful international business and international production. There are many free programs through the Ohio Department of Development and U.S. Department of Commerce export assistance and trade shows. There are many companies that have unique technologies they use for their trade that could be exported easily.
The chamber is also working to expand its membership. In 2008 they had a banner year despite the downturn. Last year there were 107 businesses that joined the chamber. Paul Nisbet a new board chairman has said the chamber is going to try and build on that success for 2009.
Another goal is for the chamber to expand. Push more development on the Ohio 63 expansion to the west. They will be pushing more elected officials to get involved since some of the neighboring communities don’t want them to do that. The chamber will be exploring the expansion of education and workforce development in the schools through volunteering and a Teacher of the Month award for economic development.
