CHILDREN GET SPECIAL ATTENTION AT MIDDFEST
Monday, September 15, 2003 12:00:00 AM - Middletown Ohio
Children visiting Middfest International 2003 featuring Scotland will be greeted by a 30 foot model of the fabled Loch Ness Monster. Visiting youngsters will also be invited to join in the Harry Potter Fun on the third floor of the Middletown City Building. Readers of the popular Harry Potter series, whose author lives in Scotland, can test their HPQ – Harry Potter Quotient, in a trivia competition. Quiddich Games will also be a part of the fun. A relay race, of sorts, allows every participant a chance to be the Seeker.

Middfest planners, in an effort to increase understanding of other cultures, annually invite area school classes to visit the Middfest exhibits during the week prior to Middfest weekend. Beginning September 29 through Middfest opening October 3, classes may visit the Literature, Science, Culture and History elements of Middfest. Exhibits are staffed with knowledgeable docents to explain the displays and answer student questions. Teachers may call Linda Carpenter at 937-743-2144 or the Middfest office at 513-425-7707 to schedule a tour. Each area school received a resource packet last spring which contains information about the entire Middfest operation. Middletown City Schools may use the mass transit system free of charge to transport children to the Donham Plaza site.

Saturday, October 4, is Super Saturday, an annual event for youth groups to enjoy Middfest performances designed just for children. The free program is fast paced and includes miniature golf, Highlander games, Scottish animals and much more. Groups who reserve in advance may arrange for an embroidered collector badge. Performers scheduled for Super Saturday include Prairie Wind Dancers, Nego Gato, Toucan Jam, and Scottish dancers and pipers. Super Saturday is sponsored by Target stores and the Ohio Arts Council.

In conjunction with Middfest, a special performance of An Afternoon With Mark Twain will be at the Sorg Opera House. Special group rates are available. Call 513-425-0180 for ticket information and performance schedule.

Middfest International is a year-long international friendship educational program culminating in a three-day festive event in downtown Middletown, Ohio. For more information, please call 513-425-7707, email middfest@siscom.net, or visit the website at www.middfestinternational.org.
