City Manager Weekly Report (February 8, 2009)

Weekly Update to City Council from the City Manager

February 8, 2009

Thanks to Trenton Fire

Despite fast-tracking a new ambulance purchase and remount of another unit, MFD was unable to keep three of our five ambulances running January 14 – 22.  This was due to significant increased run volume/transport miles and failure of new emission control equipment.  During this time Trenton Fire Department, on behalf of the City of Trenton, loaned us an ambulance.  One more example of the importance of having good neighbors…and to be added to the long list of resources these departments/cities have provided each other.

Black History Month Read-in

The Middletown Community Center will be hosting Black History read-ins each Monday and Wednesday for the month of February from 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The read-ins are a part of the Community Center’s after-school program which provides academic tutors, recreational activities, and lessons in arts.  Members of the community will read stories of African American Heritage to the children to celebrate cultural awareness, inclusiveness, and literacy.  The community is invited to these story telling events.  For more information, call 425-7866.

Section 8 Update

As you recall, on Jan 28 I sent City Council a list of bullet points that would be included in the CONSOC contract and asked for feedback.   I’ve attached another copy if you would like to review again.  Based upon these bullet points, staff composed a draft contract and sent to CONSOC on Jan. 31 for their review.  At that time, we set a meeting to take place on Monday, Feb. 9 to begin discussions.

Finance Sub Committee

A reminder that the Finance Sub Committee meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

Council Retreat

Thanks for a great retreat on Saturday.   I look forward to working on AGENDA 2009.  We’ll get the notes refined and out to you in the near future.
