CITY OF MIDDLETOWN SNOW REMOVAL

With a 10 inch snowfall, Middletown City crews are working long hours to clean roadways and emergency access routes. As with all snow and ice events, emergency routes are cleared first—fire stations, the police department, hospital and access routes.  Main streets come next.

There is no way to avoid some refilling of driveways by snowplows given the amount of snow that fell, and City plows try to clean from curb to curb in an effort to not only make travel easier but to make mail delivery easier.

According to Public Works Director David Duritsch, if residents and businesses shovel their driveways to the right as they face the street, then when the snow plows come by, there is less snow likely to be plowed back into the driveway.

It is the responsibility of each resident to do the final snow removal at their driveway and around their mailboxes.

Un-sung Heros: Middletown Road Crew

I think the road crews did a good job. This was a horible past week and they did the best that could reasonably be expected.

Thanks Middletown road crew, my staff did not miss a single day of work.

Phelps said every city street — more than 600 miles of roadways — has been plowed, with priority given to thoroughfares.
The street department has 20 trucks and is operated by 10 employees. Since the department is unionized, all overtime is voluntary, he said.
He can't force them to work.
"I'm not making excuses," he said. "My guys are working their tails off."

These are quotes from an article earlier this week. Our road was cleared for the FIRST time today, when it is 40+ degress when the snow and ice is melting. No salt was dropped for when the slush freezes over later tonight when it is 20 degrees.
I did see a truck clearing Holly and Boylston on Thursday afternoon, but not the streets below Boylston.
Phelps is lying or was misinformed by his workers about all the streets being cleared.
And then money is wasted clearing streets when the snow and ice is melting on its own.
Simply classic for our City.
