The committee is charged with developing a recommendation to the Board of Education for new elementary attendance boundaries. The goal is to develop an attendance boundary recommendation that follows a community developed set of criteria used to guide the process. The committee met in September and October, and choose the following criteria as important to setting new attendance boundaries:
1. Building Capacity
2. Minimize Disruption of Students
3. Neighborhood Schools
4. Diversity
5. Minimize Splits of Subdivisions
6. Grade Configuration Changes
7. Future Growth / Annexations
8. Walkability
The CTFR will hold a Communicy Dialogue Session on November 15, 6:30 PM at the Middletown Community Center, and on November 17, 6:30 PM at Creekview Elementary School to introduce the parameters and related issues regarding redistricting student attendance boundaries. They will also share important facts and figures and solicit community feedback on the proposed parameters and process. No final plan recommendation will be made at that
time.
After the Community Dialogue session is complete and the results are analyzed, theCTFR will develop a recommendation for new elementary attendance boundary lines.
The recommendation will begin to take effect at the start of the 2006-07 school year and will be fully implemented when all the new and renovated elementary schools are
completed at the start of the 2008-09 school year.
The primary focus of the CTFR will be on elementary attendance boundaries, but since all sixth grade students will enter a middle school next year, the committee will also invite input regarding middle school attendance boundaries.
CTFR will present an elementary attendance boundary recommendation to the Board of Education at a January 2006 meeting.
