WORLD’S LARGEST YMCA FACILITY OPEN FREE TO THE WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC FROM SEPTEMBER 20TH TO 27TH


COUNTRYSIDE YMCA SUPPORTS AMERICA ON THE MOVE WEEK


WHAT:     During the week of Sept. 20 to Sept. 27, 2009, the Countryside YMCA will host America On the Move Week. Over 1,300 YMCAs nationwide will join with the America On the Move Foundation in this collaborative effort to improve the health of our communities across the country.
    
According to research by the America On the Move Foundation, making two small daily changes – taking 2,000 more steps (the equivalent of about a mile) and eating 100 fewer calories – can prevent the average annual weight gain of one to two pounds. This year, the goal is to reach 800,000 of steps here in Warren County and 10 billion steps across the country during this designated week. 

    Countryside YMCA will open its doors free to the Warren County public for the entire week-the first time it has done this in its


WHY:    Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the leading causes of death in the United States. Seventy-five percent of the nation’s total medical care costs go to treating people with these conditions. While such diseases are prevalent and costly, they are also preventable of most health problems.

According to research by the America On the Move Foundation, making two small daily changes – taking 2,000 more steps (the equivalent of about a mile) and eating 100 fewer calories – can prevent the average annual weight gain of one to two pounds. During America On the Move Week with the YMCA, individuals and families can learn hundreds of tips and new strategies that make it easier to make healthier choices at home, work, school and throughout the community.
