In the 38th round of the MLB Draft (1,145th over all selection) a former Middletown Middies' dreams came true. Robert Sabo, a right handed pitcher, that attended Middletown High School and now plays for Kent State University (majoring in Human Movement Studies) has been drafted by the Cleveland Indians.
Sabo, 21, under went major shoulder surgery close to two years ago and took the mound for the first time since the injury this spring. Sabo told the Middletown Journal "it took a while this spring to start feeling comfortable again on the mound after missing the entire 2008 season and 20 months total."
He went 3-1 with a 6.84 ERA in 22 relief appearances this season for the Golden Flashes - the Mid-American Conference Tournament champions who advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Indians have until the middle of August to sign Sabo, if a deal is unable to be reached by the dead line the former Middie can return to Kent State and will be eligible for the 2010 MLB Draft.
