Central Avenue will be the most inviting its been in many, many years when the Got Art project is unveiled during an opening event November 19, 4-7 p.m. Got Art is a project sponsored by the Middletown Convention and Visitors Bureau and made possible thanks to the volunteers involved in the CVB’s Event Managers group. Downtown building owners, Central Avenue businesses, artists, arts organizations and volunteers have come together to present the Arts Central District of downtown Middletown in the best way possible.
Thirty-six of the best of regional artists will display fine art and seven local arts organizations will promote their projects through displays in the unused store-front windows from November 19 through December 31 in conjunction with the other Arts Central District events of the holiday season including Light Up Middletown which opens one week later and runs from the day after Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve.
The Arts Central District in downtown Middletown is being dressed up for the holidays to improve its “curb appeal” to prospective businesses looking for a new home. The enclosed downtown mall roof has been removed and store fronts refurbished, streets reopened and downtown is ready for business. While some businesses have moved into the newly redone area, there are still many available spaces. This project is meant to showcase the potential of the downtown area—now called the Arts Central District.
Many of the artists are from outside the Middletown area, including one from Cleveland. Several of the artists are popular in the Middletown and southwestern Ohio region: Natalie Blake, Paul Loehle, Melanie Myers, Pat Brewer, Ron Bushhorn, Dennis Capps, Libby Capps, Coni, Suzie Wright, Craig DeHart, Sam Ashworth, Mary Jo Recker, and many more.
Seven designated warm-up spots along Central Avenue will welcome guests attending the opening day event. Warm-up spots will not only be a respite from what might be cold weather but a place to meet and observe artists at work and enjoy musical entertainment. The warm-up spot at BeauVerre Stained Glass studio will host Cary Ferguson, a master glass cutter from Cleveland, and nature artist Christopher Walden. A tree lighting ceremony will be at 6:30 pm.
Artists will be assigned specific windows this week and window cleaning will be happening Saturday, November 12, 9 am to 2 pm. Volunteers from Middletown High School Athletic Department and the Butler County 4-H clubs will be wielding the brooms and squeegees.
Headquarters for clean-up day November 12 and installation/opening day on November 19 will be at the Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 1500 Central Avenue. For more information: Contact the Middletown Convention and Visitors Bureau, 513-422-3030, or www.visitMiddletown.org, RMort@cinci.rr.com.
