James Tubbs. seventh grade math teacher at Verity Middle School, will be
a presenter at this year’s Ohio SchoolNet State Technology Conference.
His one-hour presentation titled Using Web Logs in the Mathematics Classroom will be given on Wednesday, February 16. The OSN conference starts Monday, February 14 and goes through Wednesday afternoon. The state’s fifth technology conference is being held at the Columbus Convention Center.

James explains that Web Logs (or Blogs), which are online journals, allow the teacher and students to record and track the students’ writing progress in a subject using a web site to store this information. It helps to create a student’s electronic portfolio that teachers can use to evaluate student progress and also can be used as a tool for conferencing with parents.

James, a product of the Middletown/Monroe School District, is a graduate of Lemon Monroe High School and has a BA in Psychology and a Master’s in Education from Miami University. He has taught in our district for five years. He started as an intermediate teacher at Verity, teaching both fifth and sixth grades before moving to the seventh grade math position this year. James will also be teaching several courses at SOITA this spring and summer including: Great Web Tools for Your Classroom - March 14   from 4:00-6:30; Web Logs and Blogs in Your Classroom - April 12 from 4:00-6:30; and a graduate class titled Digital Portfolios - June 20, 21, & 22 from 9:00 - 3:00.

As a fifth grade teacher at Verity Middle School several years ago, James created his own web site titled MisterTeacher to support his students and parents with up-to-date class information including Homework Help, Daily Resources and even information on the Chess Club he started for his students. He has since established his own Blog titled The Future of Math. You can get to his web log by going to http://misterteacher.blogspot.com
