SUNSET PARK FACELIFT
MIDDLETOWN, OH – April 4, 2009 Keep Middletown Beautiful, Inc. has announced the first wave of non-professional volunteers to start at Sunset Park today. Students from Bishop Fenwick High School Key Club and John XXIII Elementary Builders Club will join with 15 Kiwanis members for a day of community service in one of Middletown’s oldest parks.
In late February, local arborists, landscape professionals, and tree trimmers volunteered their services of tree removal and selective pruning to begin the park’s revitalization starting from the top down. Keep Middletown Beautiful, Inc. has spearheaded this project and partnered with Steve Lewis, of Lewis Horticultural Services. To date the total of in-kind services in currently at $10,000.00 and pledges from additional volunteer work from groups will follow on Earth Day, April 22nd and a final workday scheduled for April 25th. “We welcome these volunteer groups that are stepping up to the plate and rolling up their sleeves to help us revitalize this park. The older trees that line the park have been through some terrible storms during the past few years and city budgets cannot keep up with the amount of work that is required. We knew that this would be a job for the professionals. Keep Middletown Beautiful, Inc. is thrilled to have local landscapers and arborists come on board and volunteer the heavy tree work that was required.” said Keep Middletown Beautiful, Inc., Executive Director, Denise Hall. Tammy Robert, Local Kiwanis Board Member stated, “Our organization is all about bringing volunteers into the community and teaching the importance and value of service to our local youth. We are proud to have a hard working group of young individuals coming from Fenwick’s Key Club and John XXIII Builders Club to help out in one of Middletown’s most beloved parks.”
