Perry Thatcher, local businessman, member of Middletown City Council and board member of Light Up Middletown, announced a donation of $8,000 to the Light Up Middletown project at a recent Light Up board meeting.
Mr. Thatcher, who has been a supporter and board member from the beginning of Light Up Middletown, five years ago, was instrumental in negotiating with suppliers for electrical installation and purchase of displays. As a part of his support, he was one of two generous people who offered to lend the Light Up committee the money needed to cover the start up costs of the operation rather than have the group take out a bank loan and pay interest each year.
Through the past several years, Light Up Middletown has systematically paid off a portion of each loan to bring the amound owed to Mr. Thatcher down to $8,000. He has generously offered to forgive the remainder of the loan as a donation to Light Up Middletown.
Florella Randall, chairwoman of Light Up Middletown said, “Perry has been very, very generous with his time, talent and money throughout this project. I can’t thank him enough for his support to the project and for the personal assistance he has given me as business advisor for Light Up. We will now be able to add some larger items to the displays in future years and make larger donations toward park improvements in Middletown.”
