LIGHT UP MIDDLETOWN TO KICK OFF WITH PARADE

A parade through downtown Middletown’s Art Central District will kick off the 10th anniversary edition of Light Up Middletown, a drive-through fantasy light display.

The 5 pm, Friday, November 28th parade, organized by downtown business owners Linda Moorman and Jamie Murphy, will be a performance-style parade with several groups stopping to perform at points along the parade route – First and Broad,  Governor’s Square Park at Central and Broad to perform and along Central near Main Street.
The parade route is from Broad and Second (near the Middletown Public Library) to Central Avenue (Governor’s Square and on to Main Street). The parade will include approximately 35 units including Santa and Mrs. Claus and a Middletown Fire Department ladder unit which will top off the newly planted Christmas Tree at Governor’s Square.  Other units include the Middie Marching Band, singing groups, several Light Up Middletown animal characters, two floats and Scout troops.

Following the parade, Santa and Mrs Claus will continue on to the opening of Light Up Middletown in Smith Park where they will greet children at the Santa House. Photos with Santa are available.

Guests to Light Up Middletown will find many of their favorite displays, some in new locations, as well as several new displays throughout the100 acre park. The entrance will be decked out in LED lights in the sign and “winkers” in the tunnel for a new experience.

Admission is by donation “guests set their own price.”  The display is open every evening 6-10 pm, from the Friday after Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve and typically draws 50,000 visitors during the season.

Many families, school sport teams, senior center tour buses and traveling motor coach groups visit the display as an annual tradition.

To visit the display, take I-75, Exit 32 and follow the signs or enter via SR 4/73/Verity Parkway. The park is at 500 Tytus Avenue, adjacent to the Middletown Regional Airport.

For additional information call 513-423-1877 or 513-649-4506.
