The top officials from Miami University met Thursday, April 16th for a first discussion on the future of the regional campuses in Butler County and how they will relate to Oxford. There was a two hour discussion between the Academic Affairs Committee of Oxford’s Board of Trustees that will allow regional campuses the flexibility to meet the needs to students in their areas while ensuring students gain the attributes of a Miami University graduate.
The members from the Academic Affairs Committee reviewed the recommendations that were from a special committee that is formed under a charge from Miami Provost Jeffrey Herbst. Herbst had challenged the committee to rethink a strategic plan for the regional campuses for 10 years back in October. This was due to the campuses having new challenges and opportunities as they are adding to their bachelor degree offerings. These recommendations include bringing Miami Middletown, Miami Hamilton and the Voice of America Learning Center under one administrator and having one budget to function as one integrated system.
There have also been recommendations from the committee to be developed which will allow faculty to move between all Miami campuses. Another suggestion has been a high-end marketing firm in order to develop more attention to the “Miami brand” at the campuses. The deans of Hamilton and Middletown campuses asked the Academic Affairs Committee to prepare a statement of their ideal arrangements for their next meeting that has not been set yet.
