After much debate over the process used to find Middletown City Schools a new superintendent, the Board of Education met in executive session on Monday 11, 2010 to discuss the Mr. Greg Rasmussen, assistant Superintendent of Wichita, Kansas’s city schools. Mr. Rasmussen was one of three candidates chosen as a finalist for the job after an outside consulting firm gave the Middletown School Board close to 30 names of candidates. The BoE then narrowed that list to 8 and after interviews again narrowed the list to three, Mr. Rasmussen, Mr. Martin and Mr. Sommers.

Mr. Martin, former Superintendent of Mansfield City Schools withdrew from the running after reports of improper behavior in Mansfield surfaced here in Middletown. Mr. Sommers withdrew from the race and took a job in Detroit, Michigan, in a private School system. These two developments left only Mr. Rasmussen to face a large crowd of concerned citizens and teachers at the Meet the Candidates forum on Friday January 8, 2010 at the Middletown High School.

After Mondays meeting the Board unanimously voted to authorize the Board or it’s designee to start negotiations with Greg Rasmussen for the position of Superintendent of Schools.
