Two newly upgraded services developed for the promotion of Middletown to out-of-town markets have been adapted to assist local citizens as well.
Anyone can check the Middletown Community Calendar which lists local events to find out what’s happening in the Middletown area today and for months in the future. The community calendar being updated regularly by the newly reorganized Middletown Convention and Visitors Bureau is intended to serve not only potential guests to the area who may be seeking information on events, but will also serve local families looking for things to do in their free time and for those planning events checking what else may be planned for a date being considered for an event.
Event planners often either try to schedule to complement another local event or to avoid conflict with another event. The community calendar should help that planning by offering a way to check the calendar for other already-scheduled events.
Dave Pearce, President of the Middletown CVB Board of Directors, announced that the comprehensive Middletown Community Calendar is now available on the CVB website at www.visitMiddletown.org. Pearce said, “One way to attract visitors is to let them know of the many events happening in Middletown. The Middletown CVB has expanded the expected event calendar to include a more complete listing of local events and dates of interest to local residents as well as the potential visitor.”
The calendar includes most local events, home high school and Miami University Middletown varsity sports events, even community meetings and significant dates of interest to local residents. Additional refinements to the calendar will be added in the next few weeks.
The CVB’s primary mission is to attract visitors to Middletown from out of the area who will attend Middletown events, stay in Middletown hotels, and purchase meals, gasoline and other items in Middletown businesses—a way to build the hospitality industry as an even more significant part of the local economy. Middletown’s location, half way between the two metro areas of Dayton and Cincinnati gives Middletown an opportunity to combine its events and attractions with those in other communities to encourage visitors to stay in Middletown as a “jumping off” spot for attractions in the larger cities.
A complete community calendar is one way to help guests make the decision to stay in Middletown while in the area for family, business or sports events
A shorter version of the calendar, highlighting significant events and home varsity sporting events is available via email. Each month a one-page version is emailed to all who request it so that businesses may copy the calendar and share with employees and customers. It is hoped that front-line customer service people will be more aware of local events and able to assist those who ask “What is there to do around here?”
Another service to local families and businesses is a meeting room guide now being compiled. Local meeting spaces or entertainment/sport venues available for events are needed fairly often by businesses or promoters planning events in the middle of the Dayton/Cincinnati metro area. Middletown’s central location makes it attractive for those planning meetings or events that may attract attendance from both metro areas. Middletown’s easy access, off I-75, Exit 32, is often chosen by planners. When the list of available spaces is complete it will be posted on the CVB website as a quick reference guide for those planning family reunions, sport tournaments, sales or training meetings or other events.
According to Pearce, “Middletown’s CVB is fast becoming a pro-active force in attracting customers to Middletown businesses. We will be working to attract more sport tournaments and will be encouraging local businesses and organizations to bring their regional meetings here.” |
