Middletown Memorial Day Parade Forming Plans

Middletown Memorial Day ParadeLast meeting of the Memorial Day Parade in Middletown will be Thursday May 21, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the VFW Canteen on Dixie Highway in Middletown Ohio.   

The parade will be held May 25, leaving Smith Park at 10 a.m. and making its way down Verity Parkway to Woodside Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held.

According to the Middletown Area Memorial Day Association, the featured speaker for the parade this year will be Gordon Ellis, chief of police in Franklin. Sam Ashworth, the former head of the Middletown Historical Society, will be the master of ceremonies, and Father John Civille of Holy Family Parish will give the invocation and Benediction.

The Madison High School Marching Band will play the national anthem, while Jamie Osborne and Ruth Clark will be the featured soloists, and local musician Chuck Evans will play “Amazing Grace” on trumpet.Flute

Other participants will include honor guards from the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which will lay the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at Woodside.

The grand marshal of the parade will be William Riggs, United States Air Force veteran from the Korean War and whose family founded the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home in Middletown.

The committee is looking for a a few people with a classic car or convertible who would be willing to help drive the Grand Marshall, Master of Ceremonies, Soloists, and Minister. For more information on the parade, call Ken Wills at (513) 424-8119 or 423-6017.
