The contract between the Middletown teachers union and the Middletown school district expires June 30th. A negotiating team for the Middletown teachers union has met once with district officials, according to the president of the Middletown Teachers Association. A lot of the discussion will revolve around passing the levy, which will be on the ballot again in August of this year, having failed in May. Though teachers were to receive a 2.5% raise in 2004-2005, a 2$ raise in 2006, and a 1.5% raise in early 2007, they did not receive any such raise. If the union can not come to an agreement with the district before the contract ends in June, negotiations will likely carry on in good faith.
