Middletown, like other Ohio cities and communities across the country, is waiting for the outcome of a stimulus package being debated in the US Congress.
Knowing that speed is one of the goals of any package, Middletown has been preparing and working with the proper State and Federal groups to make their needs known.
Putting US Citizens back to work on construction projects could be one of the early rewards of a stimulus program. Middletown has several “shovel-ready” plans ready to go within a short period of time.
According to Mayor Larry Mulligan, “Middletown has submitted proposed projects for inclusion with our development partners in Butler and Warren Counties, the OKI Stimulus Package Project and the Dayton Development Coalition.”
Proposed projects include: Towne Mall Redevelopment, Brownfield Redevelopment Program, Local Street Resurfacing Program, Lefferson Road Widening, University Blvd Resurfacing, Breiel Blvd Resurfacing, Atrium Blvd Bridge, Atrium Blvd Extension, N Union Road Widening, Towne Blvd Improvements, Water and Sewer Service to more of the Middletown Regional Airport property, Oxford State Road Improvements.
“Of course,” said City Manager Judy Gilleland,”These are just the projects that are ready immediately. We certainly have more needs in Middletown.”
The list of needs and support for passage of an economic stimulus plan has been communicated to all Ohio representatives and our Ohio State Governor Strickland. Mayor Mulligan will be presenting a resolution of support for Council’s consideration. The Governor has asked that interested citizens contact their US Representative and Senators to express importance of the Stimulus package to Ohio’s future.
