The scholarships are available to residents of the Middletown Regional Hospital Service area and employees of the hopsital.
To be eligible an applicant must be enrolled in a health-career program or be a high school senior who will be entering a health-related field.
The criteria for selection are: academic achievement, financial need and responsibility, character, motivation and maturity. Minimum GPA grade point average requirement is 3.0.
Primary focus this year will be in nursing, laboratory (medical technologist/medical laboratory technician), imaging services (radiologic tech, sonography, MRI, mammography and nuclear medicine), therapies (physical, occupational and speech), pharmacy and respiratory therapy. Pre-med students also will be considered.
More than $425,000 has been awarded since the scholarship’s beginning in 1973. Last year, $18,500 was awarded to 14 students.
The deadline for applications is March 31. Applications are available at area high schools and universities, and in the volunteer office, located on B-Level at Middletown Regional. Application forms also may be accessed through the hospital’s Web site at www.middletownhospital.org.
