Myron Rolle who is a 2008 Rhodes Scholar and played football at Florida State University will be participating in Miami University Middletown’s Artist and Lecture Series 2009. He was a high pick in the 2010 NFL draft. The speech will begin at 11 a.m. March 5th at MUM and it is free to attend.
Rolle’s speech will be about “Achieving Academic and Athletic Excellence: My Personal Journey.” He does not have plans on entering the 2009 NFL draft and will be heading to Oxford, England to study medical anthropology for a year.
Rolle was a safety for FSU and completed all of the necessary pre-medical requirements. He graduated in only 2.5 years averaging a 3.75 grade point average and earning a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. During the year 2008 Rolle earned Associated Press 3rd team All-American honors along with Football Writers Association America 2nd team All-ACC and CoSIDA Academic All-America. He was also named a finalist for one of the 32 Rhodes Scholarships awarded to Americans each year.
Originally his interview for the scholarship was scheduled at the same time as Florida State was playing at Mary land and the NCAA decided to allow Rolle to take a chartered plane from his interview in Birmingham, Alabama to college park. He was the fourth Florida State student and second school athlete to receive the honor and the only FSU football player to do so.
