New Cable Law Comes With Pros and Cons |
Thursday, June 28, 2007 9:06:16 AM - Middletown Ohio |
A law that would let cable companies negotiate and sign a contract with the state instead of local communities was signed by Governor Ted Strickland Monday. The law was designed to spur cable competition and hopefully drive down costs for the average customer.
However, it will also lose the city of Middletown revenues of nearly $10,000 a year, and could impact Middletown's ability to present live programming such as covering council meetings or various high school events. Ty Thomas, TV Middletown's executive director, said the law won't have immediate effect and won't threaten the status quo until 2012, "but it is potentially devastating."
