Otterbein Among 2014 “Best Nursing Homes”
Tuesday, March 18, 2014 11:12:16 AM - Middletown Ohio

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently praised a select group of long-term and post-acute care providers for being among the country’s “Best Nursing Homes”. Among the list was the Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community in Lebanon Ohio.

The 2014 rankings were published in the U.S. News & World Report.  U.S. News determines its annual rankings through data collected from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The federal agency assigns each nursing center certified by the government a rating of one to five stars through its Five-Star Rating System. U.S. News names all those with a five-star rating a “Best Nursing Home.” For more information on how the rankings are determined, please visit: http://health.usnews.com/best-nursing-homes.

In the evaluation process, CMS creates a separate rating for each of three major aspects – rigorous health inspections, the staffing ratio and number of hours of care for each patient/resident, and nine unique physical and clinical quality measures. The three ratings are combined and a star rating – from 1 to 5 stars – is assigned to each nursing home; and only those facilities with five overall stars are named the “BEST Nursing Homes”.

Jason Miller, the Vice President of Otterbein’s Lebanon Senior Lifestyle Community said “Otterbein’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of older persons.  We are thrilled with the results and, more importantly, with the recognition that Otterbein provides an exceptional commitment to the quality care of our residents and patients. Otterbein will continue to strive for improvement as our dedicated staff focuses on person-centered care and quality best practices for quality of care.”

Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices is a faith-based non-profit health and human services ministry, serving over 3,300 people annually, and related to the East Ohio and West Ohio Conferences of the United Methodist Church. Otterbein has five full-service retirement communities, five skilled nursing and rehabilitation neighborhoods, a home health agency, and hospice care.
