Poker players will test their skills against other area players during a tournament set for Saturday, February 22, at the VFW Post 3809 located at 6962 Coles Road (Central and S. Dixie Hwy) Middletown.

A fund-raising project to benefit Middfest International, the tournament is open to players over 18 years of age. Each player pays a $50 entry fee and each then receives an equal amount of exchange currency and plays until eliminated. Doors open at 11 am and play begins at noon and runs until only one player remains.

If a maximum of 200 players attend, first prize could reach $1,750 with six other prizes ranging from $130 to $875. Prizes will be adjusted based on actual number of players.

Free refreshments will be available to all players.

Sponsors of the tournament include VFW Post 3809 and Miller Brewing Company of Trenton.

No spectators will be allowed in the tournament area.

Chairmen Cecil Dunaway and Paul Adkins have been organizing tournaments in the Dayton area for 21 years. This will be the fourth such tournament held in Middletown. Paul Adkins said, “Everybody is welcome. Anybody can play and anybody can win since everybody plays by the same rules. The game is straight seven-card stud and players rotate tables and positions.” Adkins stressed that even inexperienced players have an equal chance for success.

To register for the games, send check made to Middfest International, One Donham Plaza, Middletown, OH 45042. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted via phone registration to 513-425-7707. For more information call Cecil Dunaway 937-298-0840 or Paul Adkins 937-376-3521.
