Sherrod Brown visited Middletown on August 22nd to hold a meeting with
community leaders at Miami University Middletown. Topics on the table
for discussion were economic development efforts in the region and what
the federal government could do to help. Middletown Vice Mayor Tony
Marconi made a request that Senator Brown help with his goal of getting
a new Middletown post office built and the entire city consolidated
under a single ZIP code.
Senator Brown has acknowledged that request and is doing what he can to help Middletown achieve that goal. He sent a letter last week to the Postmaster General asking for his help in building a new post office and reassigning Warren County residents in the city's east end a Middletown ZIP code. Vice Mayor Marconi believes our current post office is insufficient to cover the needs of the city and further believes that consolidating the city under a single ZIP would help with establishing a unified identity for the city.
Before the ZIP code can be changed in Middletown's east end, however, residents of the area must pass a majority vote in favor of the change. A vote that attempted to make such a change in the mid 90's failed with nearly 70% of residents voting against it.
