Summer Fun at the Middletown Public Library

by Sarah Anderson

Middletown Public Library has a lot of fun in store for Middletown children this summer.  Children ages birth through fifth grade can participate in the children's summer reading program and win fun prizes, free books, and a ticket to the Grand Finale Party.  Students in sixth through twelfth grades can participate in the young adult summer reading program to win free books, posters, and more!  Reading logs for both programs can be picked up in the children's department at the library.

The fun doesn't stop there!  The library will be offering a number of great activities for children of all ages.   Mother Goose Laptime for children ages 6-24 moths will be offered Mondays at 10:00 A.M. or 11:00 A.M. from June 15 - July 27.  Tales for Tikes for children ages 2-3 will be offered on Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M. or 11:00 AM from June 16 - July 28.  Preschool Storytime for ages 3-5 will be offered for ages 3-5 Wednesdays at 10:00 A.M. or 11:00 A.M. from June 17-July 29.   These activities will take place in the Storytime Room.

School age children (5-12) can participate in a number of fun activities on Thursdays at 2:00 P.M. in the Community Room.  On June 18, the library will hold a kickoff party with crafts stories, games and more.  On June 25, come watch comedy juggler Matt Jergens.  In July, the library will have candy bingo on the July 2, the Be Creative Comedy Magic Show with Lea Craine on July 9, Interactive musical "Fun with Mr. Pete" on July 16, The Five "R's" with environmentalist Lara Askill on July 23, and Discover your CreaTOONity with artist Jeff Nicholas on July 30.

On Fridays at 2:00 P.M. from June 19-July 31, children and students of all ages can come celebrate a different storybook character each week with videos, crafts, and activities.

The Grand Finale Party will be held in the Community Room on August 6, at 2:00 P.M. and is for children who have completed their summer reading log.  You must have a ticket to attend!

For young adults, the library will offer a number of interesting club meetings and classes:  a song writing class will be offered on June 27 at 2:00 P.M. - guitars will be provided.   An Anime Club will meet on June 30 and July 28 at 2:00 P.M. in Conference Room A and a Teen Book Club will meet on June 16 and July 4 at 2:00 P.M. in the teen section.  On July 18, at 2:00 P.M., students can learn the basics of yoga!  The Teen Finale Party will be held on August 7 for all young adults who registered for the summer reading program.

All activities will be held at the Middletown Public Library at 125 S. Broad Street.  If you need a ride, students signed up for the summer reading program can pick up free bus passes in the children's department!
