So far there have been no suspected cases of swine
flu in Butler County and health officials here are urging residents not to worry.
There has been one case of swine flu confirmed in Ohio with that case being in
the Cleveland area.
There are many ways to prevent getting
the swine flu. Some simple ways to protect yourself include hand washing,
covering your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze, and if you have flu
like symptoms don’t go to school or work and get medical attention right away.
The Butler County Health Director Patricia Burg told Josh
Sweigart from the Middletown Journal it’s important not to wait until the flu
spreads before being vigilant. The public health agencies are doing everything
they can to prevent the illnesses. With a public health emergency in effect
nationwide the Center for Disease Control along with the state officials and
other health agencies are constantly watching the illness.
Atrium Medical Center in Middletown has a “heightened
awareness” that watches for patients with upper respiratory problems. Many
schools are also being very alert with teachers and nurses being trained to
find the right symptoms. This illness is being monitored nationally
and so far out of the 40 confirmed cases in the U.S. none have been proven
deadly.
