Weekly Update to City Council from the City Manager

February 22, 2009Economic Stimulus Package
The City staff has identified numerous projects for which the economic stimulus monies could be utilized.  That list is attached for your reference.  We have already submitted many projects to State and Federal agencies, and may still add new projects to the list.  Given that the funds will be routed through several different state and federal agencies, there are very few details on actual submission for many of the pots of money.

Also, while we want to ensure that we submit all necessary projects, we do not want to dilute the effectiveness of our projects by over submitting; we think the attached mix of projects strikes a balance.

Prosecutor on Temporary Assignment
We have moved Doug Adkins, our Prosecutor, into the Community Revitalization Department on temporary assignment.   With the recent departure of a person in a key position who oversaw the Section 8 program and CDBG, we needed someone who could hit the ground running to assist in this department.  Dougs high energy and solid work ethic fit the bill; he brings with him a wealth of knowledge on code enforcement issues, along with a great background in Section 8.    Hopefully in the next several months we will be able to define permanent roles.

Housing Committee
We are still trying to schedule a Council Housing Committee meeting to discuss the NSP funds as we discussed at the last Council meeting.

NSP Fund guidelines
This question came up at the last council meeting.  I've attached the guidelines for the 2.1 Million in funds.  We have been told that 100% of the funds cannot be used for demolition, that there needs to be a mix of rehab.  We can talk in greater detail at the Housing Committee meeting.

AGENDA 2009
I've attached a draft for your consideration.  Please advise if you have any additions or alterations.

Street Lights
To report street lights that are out, residents can call Duke at 513 421-9500 or toll free 1 800 543-5599.  Should residents want to report them via Duke's website it is www.duke-energy.com/ohio/service/streetlight-outage.asp.
