Weekly Update to City Council
from the City Manager
October 3, 2008

Park Debris Clean-Up
We have a lot of debris in most of the parks and the clean-up will take several weeks. Our crews are doing a great job of balancing the special activities with the storm clean-up.

Budget Discussion
We will discuss the budget review calendar at council meeting. Depending upon the level of detail council desires, we will plan the number of review sessions accordingly.     The proposed budget is balanced.

Section 8
Our consultant will be at council for a presentation on Section 8 options.  Council can choose to ask the housing committee to conduct further in-depth review.

Towne Mall Property Maintenance Enforcement
We are working with Towne Mall reps to ensure the property is kept up to code; there are a few things that need to be tidied up.

Towne Mall Occupancy
We have heard nothing in quite some time regarding “the plan” for Towne Mall.  We will be contacting them.

Dillards Close-Out Sale
The close-out sale will cease in November unless the store is able to produce documentation that they are producing enough income tax revenue that we should permit bargain sale activities at the mall.  A permanent close-out sale is something that most communities avoid unless the entity is something comparable to Filene’s Basement.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program Awards Middletown $2.14 Million
Great News for Middletown!  While we were awarded the funds, we have not received the guidelines on how to use the money.  Mostly for foreclosure and home assistance.

Interviews for Economic Development Program Manager
A panel of staff and community members will be interviewing 11 applicants for the Program Manager the week of Oct. 6.  The job ad for the Economic Development Director should be ready to go within the next week.
