The wonder and magic of a Clydesdale horse walking on the street and sidewalks of our downtown neighborhood was a real thrill for a few hundred people in Punta Gorda Florida today. From 12 to 2 PM his two guardians/trainers allowed us to walk with him, pet and talk with him, take pictures of him and with him. He was very well behaved. No balking or shying away when stepping up on the sidewalk or around street signs. No batting his beautiful eyes when the kids talked in their loud voices. No snorting or shaking his head when we all crowded in to pet him. There are three teams of Budweiser Clydesdales that travel the USA. Each team has 10 horses - 8 for pulling the wagon with two in reserve. This horse is part of a team visiting Florida where they are to be shown at the Arcadia Rodeo. Arcadia is the town in approximately the center of Florida cattle country. The young lady holding his harness says each team is on the road about 300 days every year. Her particular team is based in St. Louis. |
