Has anyone observed or heard of recent city-subsidized "downtown" construction activity involving the Goetz Tower, Snider Building, former Senior Citizens Center, Rose Furniture building remains, Manchester Inn, former Vail Avenue Woodworking Shop, etc., etc.?  Also, Wondering Out Loud as to Redeveloper Proposals for the reclamation of the former Studio Theater and reuse of the city's surplus fire station prior to the upcoming March deadline for bonafide proposals?

I drove past this place - what is really even marketable about this building?  Makes a great fire station - but not sure much else.

Actually there could have been another use-the library was looking at it for their new bookmobile and other outreach programs. But the rehab costs were too high-the roof is apparently shot and other systems need replaced/upgraded

The fire house on Tytus Ave. was emptied because of a shortage of firemen. Remember when we passed a safety levy that guaranteed no lay-offs of safety personnel? Shortly thereafter Adkins laid off so many firemen that there were not enough to man the firehouse on Tytus so he closed it down.

Recently Adkins has said he wanted to revisit the locations of the city’s fire stations. When he realizes that one is needed near Tytus, he will want to build a new one next door to the one that he abandoned. Of course he can always use money from the sewer separation fund. All this is another waste of money because council never spends money for what it is voted for.

The city should have retained this property for it’s original purpose, a firehouse! The city should have maintained the building instead of abandoning it! Any citizen who abandons property and allows it to deteriorate is fined or the city tears it down. Taxpayers foot the bill for all of the city’s thoughtless misuse of our money … it should come out of the pockets of those who perpetrate such travesty … and they are in the city building!!!!

Just as an instance, the fire at the church on Tytus might never have occurred if the area which is known to be problematic had been better policed. The damage that teen age vandal/arsonists did might not have been so severe if fire fighters had been closer. The burnt out section of the church that housed their child care facility will not be rebuilt
