Anyone illegally crossing the border with drugs and guns has no right not to be shot at. Some of the Border Patrol policies need to be rewritten... Like having to get permission to chase a drug dealer. Or if someone shoots you and runs you can't shoot back. Just because someone is moving in the opposite direction as you doesn't mean they are harmless.

I agree with Vet, these guys are heros not criminals. The fact they ever spent a day in jail was criminal.

The President is to be commended for the decision. Trying to stop any drug dealers is a good thing. They should not only be pardoned, but re-instated in their jobs with backpay. Drug dealers should have no rights.

This might be a stretch but I won't lose any sleep over it:
WASHINGTON (AP) — President George W. Bush has commuted the prison sentences of two former Border Patrol guards whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited debate about illegal immigration. Bush's act of clemency on Monday for Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean was a victory for Democratic and Republican members of Congress and others who pleaded with the president to pardon the men or at least commute their sentences. Ramos and Compean are each serving sentences of more than 10 years for shooting an unarmed illegal immigrant as he was fleeing an abandoned marijuana load in 2005, then trying to cover it up. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5j6mH44rWD9yyZf_AZ7YxQDVFL7WwD95QC0O81 |
