Taken From The Weekly Update From City Manager To City Council

Congratulations! Jeff Michel will be taking over as Executive Director starting Monday March 29th. Jeff has been with KMB for 4 years and Board President for 3 years. He has been instrumental in initiating new projects and looks forward to expanding the program. Thanks to Denise Hall for her leadership of KMB; we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors!

Executive Director of Keep Middletown Beautiful? Is this organization a part of city hall or is it a private group comprised of private citizens volunteering for the benefit of the city? If this is a city position, is there a salary paid to Michel? If so, how did this person transition from a President of a private citizens group to Executive Director drawing a salary from city coffers? Did this Denise Hall leave on her own or did they "create a spot for their city hall buddy, Michel? Tell us more about this position Gilleland. Did something happen "behind the scenes here"? Just curious and don't trust'em any further than I can throw 'em.

Thanks VietVet for asking the questions that I was thinking....can anyone explain the structure of this "organization?"  Are they housed in city hall? Why?

Keep Middletown Beautiful. What a joke! I had the opportunity tonight to drive through downtown. They call that beautiful? Empty store fronts, cash for gold stores, burnt buildings, holes in the ground where useless buildings stood, and homeless wandering the streets! They have the gall to have a keep Middletown Beautiful Committee? What are they seeing thayt I'm not?

They should take a bull dozer and start at the railroad tracks and go west! Our downtown area is dirty and and down right fowl! Hell Franklin looks better! The City Manager, and everyone under her including Uncle Sammy, and and all the others that are paid, except for the police and fire chief need to go. That also includes Auntie Ann and her MMF'ers. Next everyone on city council. We are in deep trouble folks, and these people aint gettin it done, I dont care how new they are!

Those of us that remember the good days and can remember a downtown would like this community ro get better!! We have a Mall? Not.

They all need to go!!!!Angry

Had my car serviced at Pohlman yesterday, and took the opportunity to walk the area-dow Main to the Sorg, then up Central all of the way. Checked out every business and conditions in and out. Have never seen the area in worse dis-repair. Ceilings had fallen in many locations. Few spots were ready for occupancy. Dirt and trash outside of many locations. Very few properties actually occupied with sustainable businesses, with the core activities revolving around Govt.services, Family Services and the Hope House(all entities that some want relocated--but to where? They honestly seem best suited right where they are. Maybe the very few upscale businesses are the enrities out of place).
Aren't we glad that we paid for new store fronts to be installed along Central on the consistently vacant buildings? Will we be replacing them down the road, even before tenants are found? Buck's Cafe(formerly known as the Anchor) was the only dining location--it is actually pretty good and a decent place. Try it out! Even the other bars are gone.

The Sorg Opera House was particularly depressing. The companion storefronts were even worse. The former Rose Furniture location may well have to come down next.  For an area touted as an "Arts district" there was  nothing outside of Beau Verre and a small Chris Walden presence. The Thatcher properties were un-characteristically unkept. The "Bright Future" doesn't seem to be any time soon.

I would expect Mr.Michel to be the perfect choice for KMB and their donated office space within the city building. Congrats to Ms.Hall for her service and new position. A very nice lady.

The Historical Society is obviously on it's last legs in it's current form. What can Mr.Wilson do other than seek new funding? MCF or other foundations? I doubt that the record-keeping organizational situation will get govt.funding.
