I agree with Barney,if you don't want to be around anyone that is gay then don't enlist. Our military is the most racist and discriminatory organization in the world. 70 years ago it was blacks,blacks could not sleep,eat,shower or hang out with white soldiers. Blacks during WW II were given menial task and were told they could not fight in the war. Now it's gays & lesbians. When I was in the army I could have cared less if someone was gay as long as that person did their job. I shared the showers with other men,as many as 6-10 men at a time and never worried who was gay or who wasn't because we didn't care. The old barracks had no bathroom stalls,it was all open so when you went to sit "on the throne" you might be sitting there with 10 other guys. Now they (DoD) want seperate showers ??!!! If the DoD were a company and acting like this just imagine the lawsuits !! But yet the DoD can be racist & discriminate but no one else can,great double standard there United States.
I think the only reason it was repealed is the politicians do not want to have to start a draft and they are getting hard up for enlistments. This perpetual and so called war on terrorism is nothing but a joke while our kids are relentlessly being maimed and slaughtered. It's been almost 10 years since the hunt started for Bin Laden and they still can't find him !!! The DoD is a friggin joke.

Agree Hermes. When I was in, this "gay" issue wasn't an issue. I never knew who was gay. Never advertised by fellow military members around me, never talked about, never "approached" concerning it. Everyone was too busy, day to day, just trying to get through to the end of the enlisted term, especially in Nam. In Nam, we all were just trying to get back to the world in one piece and back to a "normal" life. All of that was enough to worry about without tacking on all this excess crap like gay lifestyles and how they apply in a military environment.
