New businesses to celebrate grand opening Friday
MIDDLETOWN — Jay and Linda Moorman believe celebrating the two newest businesses to open in their 25,000-square-foot building means celebrating Middletown’s future.
The Moormans bought the building seven years ago for $100 and - with a $300,000 interest-free loan from the city of Middletown - transformed the first floor into the home of their BeauVerre/Riordan Stained Glass Studio, as well as a work space for artist Chris Walden.
The second floor, BeauVerre on the Square Loft Shops, recently saw the opening of Art Avenue Custom Framing and Bella A Unique Boutique. From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, both businesses will hold their grand opening celebrations during First Friday Downtown Middletown
OK, THAT'S GREAT! NOW, HOW MANY JOBS WILL THAT CREATE FOR MIDDLETOWN? WHAT WILL THE JOBS PAY? WHAT IS THE EXPECTED IMPACT ON BRINGING PEOPLE TO THE DOWNTOWN AREA FOR THESE NEW BUSINESSES? WILL THERE BE AN IMPACT THAT WE WILL ALL NOTICE WITH THIS BOUTIQUE AND FRAME SHOP? HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE THESE BUSINESSES PROJECTED TO AFFECT BOTH LOCALLY AND FROM OUT OF TOWN?
I'M GOING TO TAKE A SHOT AT PREDICTING THAT THIS WHOLE VENTURE IS NOT GOING TO EVEN BE NOTICED BY THE MAJORITY OF THE CITIZENS, LOCALLY OR OUT OF TOWN. IF THIS BE THE CASE, WHY IS IT PRESENTED AS SUCH A BIG DEAL IN THE JOURNAL? WHERE IS THE MEAT AND POTATOES IN ACTUAL JOB CREATION AND BUSINESSES LOCATING HERE? WHY ARE WE SATISFIED WITH QUICHE AND FRU FRU?
