P&G to cut 5,700 jobs in restructuring

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble said Thursday it plans to cut 5,700 jobs over the next year and a half as part of a cost-cutting plan.

The job cuts are part of $10 billion the Cincinnati-based company said it wants to save by the end of the fiscal year ending in June 2016.

The world’s largest consumer products maker, which makes items ranging Pampers diapers, Bounty paper towels and Charmin toilet paper, has experienced slowing sales volume in the U.S. as consumers continue to spend cautiously

The job cuts amount to about 10 percent of the company’s non-manufacturing.

Procter & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald announced the moves at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in Boca Raton, Fla. acturing workforce, and are expected to be complete by the end of the fiscal year that ends June 2013.

I AM A DOWNSIZING GRADUATE OF THE CLASS OF 1994 AND MY WIFE IS A MEDICAL DOWNSIZING GRADUATE FROM THE CLASS OF 1999.

WHEN WE GOT THE BOOT IN THE 90'S, IT WAS CALLED "STRENGTHENING GLOBAL EFFECTIVNESS". AT THE TIME, ED ARTZ WAS THE CEO. THE SGE BECAME "SAY GOODBYE TO ED" WITHIN P&G.

WHEN WE STARTED AT P&G, MY WIFE IN 1985 AND I IN 1984, WE WERE TOLD BY SOME GRIZZLY P&G VETERANS THAT THE COMPANY HAS A HABIT OF "CLEARING OUT THE DEADWOOD" EVERY TEN YEARS. THAT IS DONE FOR A REASON. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AT THE TEN YEAR INTERVAL BECAUSE P&G IS REALLY PUMPING STOCK INTO YOUR RETIREMENT ACCOUNT ABOUT THEN AND CONTINUES TO POUR STOCK INTO YOUR RETIREMENT AT A FEVERISH PACE THROUGH 20 YEARS AND BEYOND. OF COURSE, NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE STARTING NOW WILL SEE 20 YEARS WITH THEM....THEY JUST DON'T KNOW IT NOW. THE REPETITIVE TEN YEAR PURGE IS DONE TO SAVE MONEY ON RETIREMENT COSTS AS THEY KEEP REPLENISHING THE EMPLOYEE STOCK BY HIRING NEW/YOUNG TO REPLACE THE OLD SO AS TO NOT HAVE TO KEEP PILING ON THE STOCK INTO RETIREMENTS. P&G WILL TELL THE PUBLIC, AS THEY HAVE DONE IN THIS STORY, THAT IT IS "ADJUSTMENTS TO THE MARKET AND DEMAND". PERHAPS, BUT NOT ENTIRELY.

ON THE SURFACE, P&G WANTS THE PUBLIC TO THINK THEY ARE THE KNIGHTS IN SHINING ARMOR, A SQUEEKY CLEAN, WONDERFUL COMPANY, THE SAVIOR OF CINCINNATI. INTERNALLY, EMPLOYEES ARE GREETED EVERYDAY WITH INTIMIDATION, COMPLIANCE OR ELSE AND CUT THROAT, SHARK TANK, CAREER ENDING DANGER. MANY AN ULCER WAS CREATED BY THIS "WONDEROUS GOD OF CINCINNATI". SO FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT KIND OF ABUSE ANY LONGER.
