Boy Scout Troop 18, sponsored by First Baptist Church of Middletown, held it's biannual Court of Honor on Tuesday September 30, 2014.

The following received advancements:
  • G. Puccio, Scout
  • B. Peil, Tenderfoot
  • T. Grooms, Second Class
  • N. Sheets, First Class
  • A. Waughtal, Star
  • J. Walker, Life
M. Hartman and C. Christiansen were both recognized for earning Eagle Scout, Scouting's highest rank award. They are the 52nd and 53rd recorded Eagle Scouts from Troop 18.

Merit badge recipients were:
  • R. Caldwell - Archery, Chess, Environmental Science, Lifesaving
  • B. Erwin - Archery, Art, Canoeing, Chess, Scholarship
  • T. Grooms - Art, Collections, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Family Life, First Aid
  • D. Mullins - Chess, Citizenship in the World, Indian Lore
  • B. Peil - Canoeing, Fingerprinting, Fire Safety, Leatherwork, Swimming
  • J. Peil - Hiking
  • N. Sheets - Chess, Mammal Study
  • J. Walker - Lifesaving, Personal Management
  • A. Waughtal - Lifesaving, Search and Rescue
J. Walker along with Assistant Scoutmasters Stacy Britton and Casey Mooney received the 50 Miler Award for successful completion of a trek along the Appalachian Trail in Virginia in May.

T. Grooms received the Distinguished Den Chief Award for work with the younger Cub Scouts of Pack 139 in Carlisle.

Assistant Scoutmaster Lee Dennis was recognized for receiving the Waudean Cook Memorial Award from the Hopewell District, awarded to a volunteer who volunteer as a Scouter when they do not have any children actively in the program.

Committee Member J.D. Bartlett was recognized for receipt of the Silver Beaver Award from Dan Beard Council, the highest award presented to adult volunteers at the local level.

Summer Camp patches from Chief Logan Reservation near Chillicothe Ohio went to all participants.

New youth leadership was installed with A. Waughtal becoming Senior Patrol Leader and J. Walker as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, B. Peil as Quartermaster, T. Grooms as Scribe, N. Sheets as Chaplains Aide, R. Caldwell as Historian, and R. Caldwell and B. Erwin as Den Chiefs. T. Grooms and N. Sheets were also elected Patrol Leaders. J. Peil and B. Peil were named Assistant Patrol Leaders. B. Erwin was named Order of the Arrow Troop Representative.

Chartered in 1936 and remaining continuously active since that time, Troop 18 is the longest actively serving unit in Butler County. Dr. John Nenni, DVM is the current Scoutmaster of Troop 18. They meet each Tuesday night from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 4500 Riverview Avenue, Middletown. All boys age 11 - 17 are welcome to visit and join.
