BUTLER COUNTY —
Those running for municipal, township or school board seats in November have until the middle of this week to make sure their name is on the ballot.

Candidates for every office running this year — except for Hamilton and Middletown city councils — must file election petitions by 4 p.m. Wednesday, which is 90 days before the general election.

The city charters for Hamilton and Middletown allow for candidates for city councils only to file their petitions seeking office by Aug. 20, or 75 days before the general election.

Middletown has two races that are shaping up to be contested.

Mayor Larry Mulligan pulled petitions near the beginning of July to seek re-election, but Nicky Kidd pulled petitions last Monday to apparently challenge the mayor.

Incumbent Councilwoman Anita Scott Jones pulled petitions to seek re-election in late June, and Roy Gordon pulled petitions in mid-June. But only Steve Bohannon has been certified to be on the ballot. Talbott Moon has also filed petitions for election.

Incumbent Councilman Joe Mulligan had yet to pull petitions, as of Friday.

Early voting begins Oct. 6, which is 29 days before Election Day.
