MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- "It’s been a difficult week," Middletown Firefighters’ Union president Tim Kinsworthy said Friday. That might be an understatement.

Middletown first responders such as Kinsworthy found themselves called to the scene of 34 overdoses between one Friday and the next, and many of the victims needed multiple doses of Narcan before they regained consciousness.

This spike in overdoses may represent the spread of carfentanil and fentanyl-laced heroin through the Tri-State area --  http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/cincinnati/tri-state-police-departments-respond-to-spike-in-heroin-overdoses" rel="nofollow - Cincinnati experienced a similar spike in late August , and the dramatically increased incidence of overdoses has since rippled out to surrounding counties.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio —Middletown is the latest Greater Cincinnati community to report a spike in heroin overdoses.

Hundreds of overdoses have been reported in the Cincinnati area throughout August and September. The outbreak was particularly severe in Cincinnati. Officials reported more than 60 overdose cases within two days in late August.

Police are looking into whether the overdoses may be connected, possibly by a potent batch.

Officials said the Butler County community recorded at least 30 overdoses this week, one of which was fatal.

Narcan was again used by first responders to revive those who overdosed.

When you lower the bar as to quality of residents that you invite here, you are helping create problems like this and you run the risk of increasing the "bad behavior" factor in this city. An ingredient to "bad behavior" is heroin usage and non-caring ignorance within the bad behavior segment of society. They don't care if they live within the confines of the rules of proper behavior and they certainly don't care about overdosing as they know Narcan is there to save the day. If this is so, why do we care about them? They cause problems for all of us.

This city and neighboring communities all have adopted committees to find an answer to the first time and repeat heroin offenders. Money is being thrown at the issue to control the outcome of heroin usage overdoses (Narcan + medics time and equipment usage multiple times now for most users) We all see, time and time again, that it does no good to provide Narcan. It only allows the user a safety net to use again. The source of the heroin should be the focus. The source is the supply line and those who bring it here. It (they) needs to be identified and destroyed in a combined effort with all communities, not as individual efforts within one community. Is this being addressed with the same effort that Narcan bail-out issues are? Otherwise, this will go on with no resolution and a lot of money being wasted on temporary solutions. JMO

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

Maybe the overdose victim could be forced to give up the source before or after treatment, with pending arrest and serious consequences for failure to cooperate?

John and Spider

In case you have not noticed, this is a national problem.
