Miami University Symphony Orchestra Concert 4-21-09
Monday, April 20, 2009 4:52:06 PM - Middletown Ohio
The symphony orchestra is one of the most time-honored musical organizations at Miami University. Each person elected into the symphony is taken through a special audition process. The music played sans every era of symphonic music from Baroque to today. The faculty of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra takes on a personal relationship with the musicians. The various groups are coached on a regular day to day basis which helps to create a truly individual sound and a great homogeneous style of performance.

The Miami University is a very prestigious organization. Every year, the orchestra produces an Opera production as well as concerts that focus on the choral symphonic repertoire. In the fall of 2004, the ensemble had a world music production with another university ensemble, Global Rhythms. In this performance, many professional soloists as well as Grammy-winning artists performed with the groups. The group also performed in a gala concert in 2006 with Dave Brubeck and his ensemble. In 2005, the group performed in Russia in the Russian-American Orchestra. They performed with the St. Petersburg  State Chamber Orchestra.

Tomorrow, April 21st 2009, the Miami University Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert at the Hall Auditorium at the Miami University Oxford Campus. This concert, conducted by Ricardo Averbach, features "Appalachian Spring" by Aaron Copeland. Also, there will be the winners of the 2008-2009 Annual Concerto Competition.  Some highlights of the event are Kate Wilkin's performance of Walton's Viola Concerto, Brad Wick's performance Tomasi's Trombone Concerto, and Will Cicola's performance of Rossini's Introduction, Theme, and Variations for orchestra and clarinet.

The concert begins promptly at 8:00 p.m. in the Hall Auditorium tomorrow night.  Admission is open to the public and completely free. For more information, please contact Miami University's Department of Music at (513)-529-3014.
