History repeats itself.....at least with regard to the Manchester Hotel....

According to the Journal, it may be that the city will once again, own the Manchester Hotel at some point in time. What a surprise. This is getting redundant and it continues to be a losing proposition for the city who has said repeatedly, they are trying to get out of the real estate business.(yet they keep buying back downtown properties even after they are sold- ie, the old Seniors Center which has gone nowhere as to development) By the way Mr. Adkins, where's the BMW motorcycle operation for that location? All downtown dreams and illusions to date.

Folks, is there anything that the city leaders touch, that doesn't turn out to be a total disaster? Why can't they seem to get ANYTHING right when they take on any project? Only reasonable answer may involve the word incompetence. This type of performance wouldn't be tolerated by any private sector employer. Stay in your public sector government jobs people. You won't survive in the private world. Too many mistakes costing too much money for any company to tolerate.

Looks like Grau, who got the building for a buck, because the city had no buyers for the $350,000 they were asking, didn't live up to his contract obligations and is now relying on his lawyers to hash it out with the city. Seems to be another downtown cluster/fiasco once again as to property management for the city. Grau had no money and couldn't obtain the financing for the project in the first place. Kinda knew it would turn out this way didn't we? Surely the city had the same feeling so why waste the time on this clown negotiating a contract in the first place? The city has no legitimate buyers for any downtown properties. History tells us that. Legitimate buyers are not interested in investing in downtown Middletown. One look at the potential and one could conclude it would be a money losing enterprise where one would never recoup the money invested much less make a profit.

As the song from the 60's goes......."when will they ever learn"?......

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

I thought the line we had consistently heard was that there were no performance clauses in the sale to Mr. Grau that would allow the city to revoke the sale, so this is somewhat surprising.  Didn't this actually get stated when the Liberty Spirits property sale came up that they put performance dates into the sale contract because of the lesson learned from the deal with Grau?

There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin.'
