Little Miami huge levy

   Little Miami school board is proposing a 16.95 mill levy. Thats roughly $516 a year in extra taxes on a $100,000 house. I was going to start this the way I always do about the "rich keeping the poor man down" but not this time. If the residents are capable of living in,lets say a $250,000 home, then they should be paying higher taxes. So instead of being against this levy I'm all for it ! Even though it still cost the working man over $200 extra on a $50,000 home. I say go for it school board !!

	Problem is the Little Miami school district is a poor one consisting of many retired, income-impaired people who flat out can't afford the additional costs for these proposed tax increases. Why is it so difficult for the school folks here (or in any town) to understand the plight of people on limited incomes and the strain their levies place on them? Do the school people care if their levy causes these people who are on the financial edge, to lose their home due to their wants? I understand the school folks need money to operate and maintain the district, but at what price to the people living in the community? The schools money needs have out-priced the people's wallets in most cases.

	you forget that the school board had an option that would not have affected those that you are talking about. By passing the 1% earnings tax there would be no need for a levy at all, and it would not have had any impact on the elderly or those on fixed income. It also would have helped as the district continued to grow, the schools income would have increased also. This was the best option and the school is unfortunatly past the point where they can try this again.

	That's right driver, the 1% earnings tax wouldn't have hurt the elderly and the fixed income folks, but would have hurt those working who are on a strict budget. Any tax imposed will target some group for hardship on the wallet. Can't get away from it. A 16 mil levy would crush anyone on a budget. How does a family on a strict budget factor this into their month to month expenses? It's too much to absorb at one time.
