The DC Sniper is set to be executed today, and I for one and shocked that it's only taken 7 years to get to this point. I am very proud that this murderer didn't sit on death row for 15-20 years enjoying life while his victims lay six feet under.

I'll be even happier when we start executing people on the spot after trial.

Since I'm no lawyer I've never figured out why federal inmates get executed so quickly. Look how quick they executed Timothy McVey. If they had been on state death row they would be there for the next 20 years.

Does anyone know why this is ?

I do however disagree with the method of execution,I think a guilty party should be executed according to how their victims died. In other words executed exactly the way they killed their victims.

Oh goodness Hermes, finally someone I can see eye-to-eye with on capital punishment!

Yes yes yes! An eye for an eye, a slow torturous death for a slow torturous death.

Hermes, not 100% but I think it is because when you go through the state system and are found guilty your next step is to appeal to the Fed courts, but a Fed case starts out at this step, so they only have one appeal left, the US Supreme Court. I state case goes through the Fed and then to the US Supreme. So its faster because there is one less appeal. Again I think

It doesn't have to be slow & torturous, but if one kills by shooting then he/she should die by shooting,by knife die by knife and so on. The only problem with the death penalty is there are some innocent people being executed and on death row.

Dave - You have a good point one I never thought of. It sounds good anyway.

I've never understood the tear jerking that goes on with the death penalty either. These alleged compassionates who protest executions. You never see them protesting the murdering that takes place. Lethal injection should be outlawed and reserved for euthanizing animals,it's way to easy for killers.

I have some disagreement with the methods of execution that you folks are suggesting!!!

Take the sniper, for instance.  A quick death by a single shot is too good for the scumbag.  Besides, he killed SEVERAL people...what should we have done...shot him fatally several times???  Nope!!!  It's gotta be something more terrible, to be SURE that people realize that they do NOT want that to happen to them!!!

Mike - your right, any quick death would be to good. Maybe revive them as many times as possible and re-kill them might work. Start out in the electric chair and give small doses of voltage and build up to the fry part. I think public execution should be brought back too. Public hanging never really detered crime but what the heck, bring it back anyway.
