Seems to me the demolishing is only for the north side of the street, why isn't anything being torn down on the south side of Central ?

^I am sure it is just coincidence, but there will be demolition on the south side to clear the property for the Duncan Oil project.

It's down! Wonder if the city has billed O'Rourke for the light fixture yet?

When the excavator is finished with this site, it is scheduled to be delivered to at least two sites on South Main St., then on to residential homes located on Antrim Ct.. Longford Dr., and Wicklow Lane.
![]() ![]() The last two pictures are literally breath-taking Ms. Gilleland! A nice "open range" feel to it as one drives down Central. Very impressive! Mike....get the Dylan records out now and go to the Desolation Row track. ![]() ![]() |

Viet Vet & Pacman -
It makes one wonder where the money will come from to demolish the adjoining vacant, dilapidated and asbestos-laden Strand Theatre that the City recently purchased for only $1.00??
Maybe, just maybe, senior City staff will find some "hidden, unused" HUD funds to pay for the demolition??
The cost of this endeavor is anticipated to be only several hundred thousand dollars!!
Adding the Strand Theatre property, this part of Central Avenue will be known as the "SUPER OPEN RANGE!!"
Or, our visionary senior City staff may choose to RE-BRAND this newly vacant Cental Avenue property as "HUD Park??"

This is what happens when you rely on Fed Funds to run your city. When NSP2 didn't come through the city is screwed. Now they are back to square one.

Thanks for grabbing all those photos, 409. I have not been able to watch any of the demolition and always find such activity fascinating (even though I do not like demolition).
The most recent photos really point out how much the Studio/Strand stands out now. Once demolished, the hole in Central will be huge. What is perhaps even more strange is the small one-story building facing the back street which will hover in the middle of the vacant lots with its back to Central Avenue.

NRS- OK- a little sarcastic fun here. New HUD park? How about a new Central Ave. doggie park perhaps?

Look for that to be addressed at this Tuesday's city council meeting. |

Well, this does allow more light into the area.
I guess the "BRIGHTER FUTURE" is here already!!!

I didn't catch this back on March 4th when you posted it, but now it becomes clear!!!
The "small one-story building facing the back street which will hover in the middle of the vacant lots with its back to Central Avenue" happens to be 1316 Vail Avenue--the very subject of Legislative item 5 on tommorow night's City Council meeting agenda!!!
Of course, this will be an EMERGENCY to get it through before anyone can figure out who did what to whom, on this three way swap involving a Central Avenue property for which just a few monts ago Director Kohler REFUSED to allow a similar business use. (He DENIED that NEW BUSINESS in a "business friendly, open for business" manner, of course!!!
The BOTTOM line of this whole deal???
One savvy flipper makes $45,000 profit on a $50,000 purchase at auction after only a few months.
One existing business gets a FREE, much larger building in a better location.
The citizens of Middletown get one small abandon building, lose one new business to a neighboring community, and spend $95,000 PLUS the cost of demolishing the old building!!
Good job, Director!

Mike -
Surely senior City of Middletown staff won't divert more of the $2,144,000 NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION PROGRAM funds received from HUD for this unusual emergency real estate deal??
Won't it be interesting to see how Mr. Laubach and A.J. respond to this newest Emergency Legislation matter at tomorrow's City Council meeting??
As one of your constituents, Mr. Laubach you have failed to respond to any of the questions that I asked to research.
