One ticket was drawn from all those who purchased $5 raffle tickets to support the Middletown Murals project. The winner was David Daugherty, president of the Mid-Miami Valley Chamber of Commerce. He or someone he chooses will be painted into the first mural to be on the south side of the city garage on Broad Street.
Daugherty said, “Of all the places I have ever lived or considered living, I look on Middletown as home and plan to retire here so I am very pleased to be a part of the Middletown Mural project.”
The drawing was held at the Middletown Art Center during the opening of the Downtown Middletown historic photo display on Friday evening. Mural painting will begin in the spring, when the weather is warm enough. The first mural scene will be adapted from a 1914 photo of the spot on Broad Street where the mural will be placed. A part of the mural scene will include people, as they would have been dressed at that time in history. The muralist, Eric Henn, has agreed to paint life-size present day citizens into the picture, dressed in period costumes.
To select one of the people to be included, the organizers decided to hold a raffle which also raised money for the project.
